A large rural county just west of Duluth, Carlton County is home to Jay Cooke State Park and the 1,300 acre Kettle Lake State Wildlife Management Area. The county’s population is a little over 30,000 including the towns of Barnum, Carlton, Cloquet, Cromwell, Kettle River, Moose Lake, Scanlon, Thomson, Wrenshall, and Wright. Wildlife like wolves, bobcats, lynx, beavers, otters, eagles, moose, bear, and deer are commonly seen in the area.
